I Love The Lord...

THERE ARE NO WORDS
My Valentine to Jesus

Sometimes, there are no words—

I come before You, Lord, with adoration
filled with a strong desire to express my love
but all the words that come to mind
seem over-used and feeble
and cannot convey what I long to say

I’m a poet, a wordsmith
with adjectives a-plenty, and
dictionaries, thesauruses, lexicons
close at hand, but
today I yearn to bless You afresh
with eloquence, depth and originality
I want it to be profound
something You’ve never heard before
however, I find there are no words
none to express the inexpressible

so I empty myself of words
and call upon Your Spirit
Sounds begin to tumble off my tongue
and through my lips
I trust a perfect utterance
rises like incense to Your throne
that is pleasing to Your ears

then I simply sit awhile
awestruck in silence
arms lifted heavenward
and let my beating heart speak
the unspeakable

content that You know
how much I love You, Lord

HOW MUCH DOES GOD LOVE US?

GOD’S UNFATHOMABLE LOVE
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NASB

For God—
The Majestic Almighty, Omnipotent, King of Kings
Ancient of Days, Elohim, Adonai
my beloved Abba Father

so loved—
with the bigness of His gracious agape heart
a love unfathomable, unconditional
and abounding in mercy

the world—
the whole wide world and everyone in it
in Israel, Jordan, Iran, Russia, Nigeria, China
in Ireland and Italy, where my ancestors came from
in HochHausen, Germany, where loved ones reside
where we’ve been on vacation, Aruba and Bermuda
and all of us right here, in Wayne, New Jersey

that He gave His only begotten Son—
given to us, freely, our Father’s extraordinary gift of Yeshua/Jesus
His sinless Son, to save us from punishment we deserve
for sins we have committed

that whoever believes in Him—
so all we need do to receive this wondrous gift
is believe God’s trustworthy Word
believe that Jesus was born into the world
and that He is our promised Savior

shall not perish—
because of Jesus’ sacrifice upon Calvary’s Tree
and because His Most Precious Blood atoned for all our sins
death has been swallowed up in victory!

but have eternal life—
because of Jesus’ miraculous Resurrection from death
we live because He lives
and will dwell with Him
in the Kingdom of Heaven
to enjoy unimaginable splendors
forever…forevermore

Praise the Lord!

God is our Daddy...our Abba

THE GOSPEL, BEFORE MY EYES

Israel Pilgrimage—1986

It happened so fast
so naturally
in Jerusalem's Cardo
while I was
in Israel
on pilgrimage
that I didn’t grasp
the profound significance
until afterward—

Double doors opened
A tall bearded man
wearing a yarmulke
entered at a leisurely pace

Moments later
the doors were pushed again
by a sobbing boy
no more than five or six
He ran in, wailing:

Abba…Abba!
Abba… Abba!

The father turned around
and swooped his child
into his arms

In an instant
the boy's tears
turned
to laughter

LOVE Is On My Mind...

It's February, so LOVE is on my mind...

I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE HIM

I can't make you love Him if you don't
can't strike a match
to cause your heart to blaze
at the mention of His Name
can't cause you to tremble
as I tremble
before His holiness
can't jumpstart love
from the outside in
It only happens from the inside out

No matter how much I love you

loving Him
is not something you can get from me
like a cup of mulled cider or a hug
not something you can inherit
like good genes, strong teeth or curly hair
not something I can demonstrate
like how to knead dough or rhyme couplets
nor is it something I can gift-wrap
tie with a crimson ribbon
and give you to make you happy

No, all I can do is tell the old, old story
about His beauty, as I perceive it
His mercy, as I've experienced it
His wonders and His love
All I can do is hope, pray
and wait

Truth will not impose
Truth waits to be sought
Answers wait for age-old questions
The Door waits for your knock

When He opens
you'll find He's been expecting you
already loving you

No, I can't make it easy, although it can be
I embarked on my quest; you'll embark on yours
No, I can't make you love Him if you don't
but should your quest lead you to His heart
I'll be waiting, like the One inside the Door
to dance in the glow of His grandeur with you
